Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz names 26-man Black Stars World Cup squad

Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz has announced his final 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup as the Black Stars makes a fifth appearance at the Mundial.

The list is without three notable names, Mohammed Kudus, Alexander Djiku and André "Dede" Ayew, who have all been left out with separate reasons.

Kudus misses out after failing to fully recover from a quad injury that has kept him out of action for an extended period.

Djiku's exclusion is also injury-related. The experienced defender suffered a setback while playing for Spartak Moscow in the Russian Cup final which his team won.

Derrick Luckassen has been called to replace him in the squad.

The biggest selection decision, however, concerns former Black Stars captain Dede Ayew.

Unlike Kudus and Djiku, Ayew was not ruled out by injury.

The veteran forward was omitted by the technical team, ending his hopes of featuring at a fourth FIFA World Cup.

Ayew remains one of Ghana's most experienced internationals and had been targeting another appearance on football's biggest stage.

However, the coaching staff opted for a younger attacking group as part of the final squad selection.

The squad includes several players who will be appearing at the World Cup for the first time, alongside experienced names such as Thomas Partey, Jordan Ayew, Inaki Williams and Baba Abdul Rahman.

Ghana's final 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is as follows:

Goalkeepers

Lawrence Ati-Zigi (St. Gallen)

Benjamin Asare (Hearts of Oak)

Joseph Anang (St. Patrick's Athletic)

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku (Leicester City)

Kamaldeen Sulemana (Atalanta)

Ernest Nuamah (Lyon)

Christopher Bonsu Baah (Al-Qadsiah)

Jordan Ayew (Leicester City)

With the final squad now confirmed, attention turns to Ghana's preparations as the Black Stars seek to make an impact at the 2026 FIFA World Cup without three of the most recognisable names from recent years.

Ghana are in Group L at the Mundial and will play alongside Panama, Croatia and England.
