Despite not qualifying for World Cup 2026, Nigeria will have 14 players at the tournament with

The 2026 FIFA World Cup starts on Thursday, June 11 in Mexico City where co-hosts Mexico will play South Africa in the opening game at the Aztec Stadium.

Nigeria failed to qualify for the tournament, but 14 players of Nigerian descent will  represent eight  different nations at this summer's competition.

France's 26-man squad includes
Michael Olise who rejected a call to play for Nigeria, chosing Le Blues instead.

He will made his World Cup debut from Didier Deschamps team at the tournament in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

David Alaba and
Carney Chukwuemeka, are all of Nigerian decent, but they will be playing for Austria at the tournament in North America.

Three players Bukayo Saka,
Eberechi Eze, and
Noni Madueke who could all have played for Nigeria, are all in the England squad as the Three Lions seeks to win a second world title.

Jamal Musiala and
Felix Nmecha also of Nigerian decent, have been named in the German squad that will attempt to win a record equaling fifth Mundial.

South Africa's squad includes Ime Okon who turned down Nigeria to represent Banana Bafana.

Co-hosts Canada, have Tani Oluwaseyi and
Promise David born to Nigerian parents, in their squad for the tournament.

So too are Manuel Akanji and
Noah Okafor who are in the Switzerland squad.

Folarin Balogun, made the USA squad as the co-hosts seek to win the competition for the first time in their history.

The tournament will end on July 19 with the tournament being hosted in North America for the fourth time.
