The winner of the flagship 21km race of the 2026 Tampico Accra Inter-City Marathon will take home a total prize package of $4,000, the organizers have announced.
This revelation was one of the major highlights from a media engagement held in Kumasi on Thursday ahead of upcoming event next month.
The prize package will include $1500 in cash prize which is equivalent of GH¢18,000 and a travel package of $2500 to an international marathon in January.
This first prize money goes to winners of both the male and female categories of the 21km event.
It was also announced that the second place athletes will pocket GH¢10,000, medals and gifts from the sponsors among others in both categories.
The third place performances takes home GH¢ 5,000 at the upcoming event scheduled to come off on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
All winners will also have medals, certificates and gifts from sponsors as they expect this year's event to be the most successful yet.
There will be cash and gifts for other winners in all categories as mentioned by the organizers.
The 4th edition of the 2026 Tampico Accra Inter-City Marathon will be 21km and 5-km races on the same day.
There will also be a para version event with the winner of the 21km race set to receive GH¢5000, with the second placed athlete taking home GH¢2500, with GH¢ 2000 going to the third placed athlete.
All participants in the mass races will receive medals and wrist bands and, will be refreshed by the sponsors and organizers alike.
Also participating will be skaters along the line.
The organisers are in discussions with an insurance company to provide cover for all participants on the day.
On October 10, the marathon will start and end at the Trust Sports Emporium, (Bukom Boxing Arena) Accra.
Persons wanting to participate in the event can dial*320*21# and pay a registration fee of GH¢100 to register.
The Tampico Accra Inter-City Marathon is an initiative of Medivents Consult Ghana and, was established in 2022 with the race attracting over 2000 athletes each year.
It is headlined by beverage giants Tampico with support from the National Sports Authority (NSA), Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Ghana Athletics (GA), MYST Water, MAPHLIX, GWO SEVO, SOCCA BOX, Ethiopian Airlines, Capelli Sport and Zimansky Hotel.
