Mfamtsipim, SAMMO win Boys' and Girls' titles at Central region Athletics Schools Championship

Mfantsipim School demonstrated its athletic superiority in the Central Region Schools and Colleges Athletics Association Zone Three Championship that ended recently.

The School finished first in the boys’ category with 201 points as they dominated the competition.

Their closest rivals, St. Augustine’s College, placed second with 148 points, 53 points behind as they lost to their bitterest rivals on the local scene.

Effutu Senior High School secured third position in the boy's category with 142 points, as they trailed the big two schools.

This remarkable victory by Mfamtsipim School, marks six consecutive Zone Three athletics titles and their 15th overall, further establishing the school as the dominant force in the competition in the region.

The championship also witnessed some moments of sheer resilience as national 400m leader and world U20 Championship bound Jonathan Ofori Nkrumah broke Paul Acquah's long standing 1995 400m record.

His teammate Godfred Essandoh also broke Emmanuel Tuckson's 2023 400m hurdles record, sealing an emphatic statement for Mfamtsipim School.

In the Girls'division, SAMMO Senior High School, stunned the competition by clinching the title with 208 points.

In winning, they become the first private school ever to win a Central region athletics championship.

Effutu Senior High School finished second with 204 points, while Wesley Girls High School placed third with 108 points.

World U20 Championship bound Portia Nkrumah won the 200m, 400m and 400m hurdles and placed second in the long jump for SAMMO Senior High School.

Christiana Aboagye broke Rebecca Enchil's 1993 3000m record and Grace Ewusi's 1500m record from last year.

Helena Ayensu won the 100m, long jump, triple jump and 100m hurdles.

She broke Matina Baffoe's 2001 long jump record, Christiana Kore's 2012 100m hurdles record and Sandra Konadu's triple jump record for SAMMO school.

SAMMO's dominance extended into the relays as they broke the 4x100m, 4x400m, 4x200m and 4x400m records, 11 in all.

Helena Ayensu of SAMMO School, won the girls' best athlete.
