Nations FC defeats Dreams FC to win maiden MTN FA Cup trophy

Relegated Nations FC have been crowned champions of the 2025/26 MTN FA Cup competition after defeating Dreams FC 5-4 on penalties in Accra.

The game after 90 minutes, ended 1-1 after extra time before being decided by the dreaded penalty shootout.

It was played at the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon to climax the campaign in Ghana football this season.

Nations FC, becomes the first relegated club in 34 years to win the FA Cup, just a week after they exited the top-flight league.

The last team to achieve this feat was Voradep FC of Ho in 1992, when they beat Neoplan Stars 3-2 on penalties after a 2-2 drawn encounter.

Nations FC will represent Ghana in the CAF Confederation Cup competition next season with this triumph.

This is a historic triumph for Nations FC, as they win their first major silverware in Ghana football, the MTN FA Cup.

Going into this encounter, they were considered underdogs after their relegation from the Ghana Premier League.

However, they defied all odds to defeat a Dreams FC side that finished fourth in the league, and were going for their second title in this competition.

Nations FC will now turn to preparations for next season where they will play in the Confederation Cup, the Division One League as well as defend the knockout trophy they have just won.
