Accra Hearts of Oak begins quest for 22nd GPL title at home to Berekum Chelsea on Sunday

Accra Hearts of Oak will begin their quest for a 22nd Ghana Premier League (GPL) title on Sunday as the new football season begins this weekend.

The Phobians will be home to Berekum Chelsea at the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon, Accra where they will look to start the campaign on a high.

The capital club last won the GPL title in the season of 2020-21, and, they are desperate to add to their championship collections.

Sunday, presents them with a perfect opportunity to get the season off to a flying start as they welcome the Bibires to the capital.

A strong start to the campaign, will be a confidence booster for the rest of the competition with some anticipated tough assignments on the line.

New coach Nebojsa Kapor, has been in charge since his appointment last month, and, he has presided over the pre-season rituals with alacrity.

The preparations for the new football season, included playing in some high profile friendlies from which they will take the positives into the new season.

Hearts of Oak made some new additions to their squad as they aim to challenge on all fronts starting on Sunday, and it will be interesting to see how they shape up in their first game of the season.

Coach Kapor has his job well cut out for him as he has been tasked to win silverware at the end of the campaign.

In addition to the GPL race, Hearts of Oak will also partake in the FA Cup, a competition they have won a record 12 times.

Winning the league is top priority for chieftains at the club, and coach Kapor and his charges will have to prove their worth starting on Sunday against Berekum Chelsea on home soil.
